MS002 6 pdr 6 cwt Hotchkiss
Date: 1941
Material: steel
Mount pieces: lower pivot
Remarks: The Ordnance QF 6-pounder 6 cwt Hotchkiss Mk I and Mk II was a shortened version of the original QF 6 pounder Hotchkiss naval gun, and developed specifically for use in the sponsons of the later Marks of British tanks in World War I.
In October 1940, two 6 pounder 6 cwt Hotchkiss guns were deployed to this location and work on the casemate emplacements commenced on the 28th January 1941. The guns were removed from Europa Pass and installed here in February with RE works being finally completed on the 5th April 1941 according to Rollo. The guns there remained there throughout the war before being finally removed.
Only the lower pivot remains on site today. It is the only remaining piece of this type of gun left in Gibraltar.
