George Augustus Eliott bust and column

Ref: BU002

The bronze bust and marble column of George Augustus Eliott, 1st Baron Heathfield, was erected in 1858. It replaced the previous wooden memorial of Governor Eliott which had been carved from the bowsprit of the Spanish ship San Juan Nepomuceno, captured during the Battle of Trafalgar and placed on this same spot in 1816 during the inauguration of the Alameda Gardens.
